Abortion Hidden in the HealthCare Legislation

Did you know that the language of abortion is buried in the healthcare reform package that President Obama is trying to shove through Congress? If the current form of the healthcare package is allowed to move forward we will have for the first time, government funded abortions on demand that cannot be regulated by state governments--a built in Freedom Of Choice Act, if you will. In the language of the bill, abortion is defined as an "essential benefit", an essential benefit that will need funding. If this legislation passes as written it will result in manditory insurance coverage of abortion on demand, federal subsidies for abortions, and mandated local abortion facilities---YOUR tax dollars will go to support all of these things.

If the Obama administration tried to pass such a broad based abortion program alone, it is extremely doubtful such legislation would make it out of committee, however, inserted deep within the folds of the grandiose "HealthCare Reform" package it is much more likely to be slithered through. 19 Democratic congressmen have written a letter to the Speaker of the House to insist that any healthcare legislation explicity exclude abortion, the only one from Tennessee is Lincoln Davis (D-TN).

It is urgent that we let our representatives know they must insist on removing any legislation that will lead to madated coverage of abortions by healthcare providers whether insurance companies or medical institutions. Time is very short on this issue, President Obama wants a vote by the end of July, in less than two weeks.
